Help Build Indigodragonfly a Dye Studio!
I love yarn. I love all types of yarn as evidenced by the yarn stored all over my house. Oh, and the fact that I’m rarely seen without knitting. In fact I might have freaked a few people out last night at the movie theatre (Monsters University) with my knitting through the movie. Yes, I knit in the dark…but that’s another story. I’m getting off track.
One of my favourite independent dyers – Indigodragonfly – is holding a fundraiser to build a dye studio. Two of my recent designs were done using their yarns – Whitman Cowl and New Tech Cowl – and the current design on my needles is using their fabulous Ultra MCN sock yarn in 20,000 Lawyers Under the Sea. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’d like Indigodragonfly yarns to be more readily available and so I’m putting a pitch out there to the fans. If you love these yarns and Ron’s crazy names, then click on through to their Indiegogo campaign and make a donation. Read on here to learn more.
From the campaign:
indigodragonfly. It was only supposed to be a few skeins a week. Ummm……
…..four years later, every surface in our home is either covered in yarn, yarn or yarn. 2009: did we get any orders this week? 2013: a 2-3 month long dye queue, a kitchen that is occasionally used to make food, and a strong community of knitters creating beautiful handknits with our yarn. Some folks come for the deep, rich and intense multitonal colour. Some come for the laugh-till-you-cry (or worse) colour names. All stay for the incredible passion we have for bringing you high quality yarn and in colours that shift and amaze with every stitch.
Did I mention every surface is covered in yarn?
So it’s time to move the business out of our home and to build a studio. To expand from one stove and sink to, well, more. More space and a safer workspace for us to operate in. And to grow in.
On World Wide Knit in Public day, Shall We Knit held Studiopalooza to kick off the fundraising efforts. Yarn naming and colour design rights we auctioned off in the weeks leading up to the event and Kim and Ron enjoyed dyeing the yarn in front of an appreciative audience in the Shall We Knit parking lot. Photos of the resulting yarns are shown here and here.
Fundraising continues with special edition colourways up on the website (the Polkaroolette in the Humpspun base pictured here is coming to live at my house).
Every dollar helps. Whether you buy some yarn, send a donation or just share the campaign with friends and followers, know that every Indigodragonfly fan thanks you. I’ll let Kim and Ron close things out:
“Your contribution to this campaign will help us produce more yarn faster, eliminating long dye queues.
More yarn for you. Sooner. Online. In more local yarn stores. More shows across North America.
Your contribution will help us build a venue that will allow us to hold year-round workshops and dyeing classes, and to also to eventually create a dedicated shop for retail sales.
And one of the best things about expansion: you will give us the ability to provide jobs in our community, which by extension creates more opportunities for our vendors, retailers and artistic partners.”
