Frost Boils Cowl, Boot Toppers and Fingerless Mitts
Sorted circles or “Frost Boils” occur during the process of soil heaving caused by the freezing and thawing cycle. Larger particulates tend to be pushed to the surface more frequently than smaller ones and then shifted to the outside where they remain, creating circles. Sorted circles have a border of stones surrounding a centre of finer material as shown in the inspiration photo below. Yarn:
Cowl: 267 (647) yards/244 (592) meters of wool sport weight yarn that knits up to 5.5 sts/inch.
Boot Toppers:

Shown In: Bare Naked Wools ‘Confection Sport’, (375 yards/343 meters; 100% Corriedale wool; 4.0 oz/115 grams per skein). 1 skein each in:
MC: Milk Chocolate
CC1: White Chocolate
CC2: Nougat
CC3: Cookies & Cream
CC4: Dark Chocolate
Note: If you wish to make the full set (all three pieces), you will need a second skein of the MC yarn and CC1 yarn. After finishing the Frost Boils Cowl and Frost Boils Boot Cuffs, there was still enough of CC2, CC3 and CC4 yarns left for the fingerless mitts.

Needles: US #6/4.00 mm circular needle, 32 – 40”/80 – 100 cm or size to obtain gauge.
US #8/5.00 mm circular needle, 32 – 40”/80 – 100 cm or size to obtain gauge.

Finished Size (blocked):
Cowl: Small (Large) – 20.5 (50)”/52.07 (127) cm circumference by 11.5”/29.21 cm high.
Boot Toppers: Small (Medium, Large) [XLarge] to fit calf of the leg at the widest part
12 (15, 18) [21]”/30.48 (38.10, 45.72) [53.34] cm wide by 9”/22.86 cm long.
Fingerless Mitts:
Finished Size: Small (Medium, Large)
Fits hand circumference (measured at knuckles): 7” (7.75”, 8.5”)/17.78 (19.69, 20.32) cm
Length: 11 (11.25, 11.75)”/27.94 (28.58, 29.85) cm
